My Video Collection

Okay, you can laugh if you want, but these are films that I felt compelled to pay good money for, in order to have my own copy (in some cases, I bought the film more than once as it moved from VHS to VHS Widescreen to DVD -- but I try not to make a habit of that).

I don't rent a lot of videos.  For various reasons, this is not something that has worked its way into my life routine.  As much as I enjoy going to the theatre, these opportunities are somewhat limited for me.  I'd say I average twelve movies a year.  So, if I don't see it in the theatre, chances are, I won't see it unless I purchase it.

Because of this, as much as I love film, I don't see a lot of movies.  I mean, how many movies can you actually buy?

It's not always easy to say why we buy a particular film.  Obviously, there are those that speak to us on some level -- Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Planet of the Apes, or Conan the Barbarian.  Some are pure art -- Like Water for Chocolate springs to mind.  Some are pure trash -- Sorority Babes at the Slime Bowl-O-Rama.  And, some, I like the sound track on, as in the Deputy Dawg series.

I like to think my tastes are varied, and they do range from trash, through mainstream, to artsy, and did I mention that I enjoy cartoons/animation?  But, there are films that I definitely will not see -- I mean never -- like pretty much anything with Adam Sandler or Sandra Bullock; I'm not a big fan of pure star vehicles; and I can't say I'm often in the mood to watch a "date movie."

So, here it is for your perusal.  I'll write a one-line review, or maybe a paragraph or two on some of the movies, and you'll know this if you see (jt) next to the title.  Otherwise, the links are references to the Internet Movie database.
