This is one of two pencil drawings I did.  I have only really drawn outline drawings prior to this class, usually cartoons.  I work mostly in pencil as it is readily available and is erasable, then I sometimes go over it with a felt marker.  In any case, I thought I would like drawing with pencil but I have a long way to go to get to a point where I can create subtle shading transitions with it.

I didn't hate this drawing as it turned out to look like a person sitting in a chair.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look a lot like the original.  I failed to capture her expression even though I tried to do so by moving her eyes from my first attempt to the finished product.  I had also failed at my first attempt at her face, making it too long and narrow.  I redrew it and it came out wider than it should have, though closer to the original than my first attempt.

I have a long way to go on capturing facial features.  I knew that prior to taking the class.  My other pencil entry also misses the mark, as you will see.

The artist for this is Willem De Kooning, 1904 - 1997.  Much of his work is abstract and I figured I was fortunate to find this example.  It measures 12 1/4" high x 11 7/8" wide.
