Waterloo Bridge is done in charcoal, my first with that medium. The artist is Camille Pisarro (a man), 1830 to 1903.
I'm not a fan of charcoal simply because it is messy and I don't like the feel of charcoal on paper. I mean, as you apply the charcoal to the paper, it has a rough sensation that bothers me.
What I do like about it is that it seems easier to convey these kind of wispy drawings with charcoal than with pencil or crayon. You know pretty much what to expect from the charcoal pencil and can get a range of tones from the pencil with a lot less effort than with a pencil.
This drawing measures 5" high x 6 3/4" wide.
